Simon Fletcher, poet and manager of Offa's Press and Kuli Kohli, Poet Laureate of Wolverhampton, presented a session about Birds, in anticipation of a new anthology from Offa's Press, later this year. Submissions will be in July, with further details on Offa's Press then.
Simon asked people about their experiences with birds. For the anthology, he would prefer poems that are about British birds, although poems about 'foreign' birds or locations can be submitted.
He emphasized that feelings about the experience are important. As far as mood, he is expecting many poems about 'dire' consequences of climate change, so something different would be appreciated such as humour, drama, positivity or a 'twist'. He gave examples of these types of poems, many of which are on the In the Sticks page of the Offa's Press website.
Also any type of poetic form is acceptable, from ballads through haiku to sonnets etc. This includes free form.
