David Bingham led our workshop for another enjoyable session. We started by watching a short video to whet our appetites. It covered mythical objects from the Philosopher’s Stone through to the Flying Dutchman, by way of a dozen others including the Helm of Darkness and the Necronomicon.
We each then thought of a mythical object, and came up with a fascinating selection including Golum’s Ring, several items from Jack & the Beanstalk and Pandora’s Box.
These exercises all provided inspiration for our main work of the morning. David asked us to write the introductory paragraph for stories based on everyday objects with mythical or magical properties. We came up with a Bilston coal-miner and his magical hammer; a laptop with a mind of its own; an audio book with sadistic powers and many more. I am looking forward to reading all of these stories when they are posted on our closed Facebook group.
Thanks David for hosting another excellent Saturday morning workshop.
David's poetry collection The Chatter of Crows is available from Offa's Press.
